Does anyone have any information on the new schools on being built on Cuthbertson in Waxhaw? Are they building MS and HS? Last question, any idea which subdivisions will be affected? I looked on the UCPS website, but couldn't find too much about it. Thanks!

UCSPS has started to clear the site for the Middle School and High School (deemded MS/HS "C" on the UCPS Site. I think the Elementary School (deemed ES "L" ) will come a bit later. They all are slated to open in July 2009. A second ES on that site was planned but has been tabled for now until improvements can be made to Cutherberson Rd, which is very narrow 2 lane country road.

Not sure at this point what exact neigborhoods will feed these schools. I suspect it is probably to early to tell as development in that area continues to boom. I do know that some of New Town Elementary (Weddington HS Cluster) and some of Kensington (Marvin Ridge Cluster) will feed the MS. I'm pretty sure that Lawson and Champion Forest neigborhoods will be affected since they are both directly on Cuthberson.

Hope that helps

Thanks Jlat. We're actually buying in Millbridge and while my husband was touring Marvin Ridge HS (our daughter will be attending next school year) they mentioned that we would probably be zoned for the new HS. But, the rep at Millbridge told us that was not the case. I don't mind other than the fact that I would feel better if our daughter had the continuity of one HS being that we're pulling her out of her schools here in NY to move to NC. I know that is wishful thinking with the housing boom in NC, but I just want to have her prepared! Thanks again.

I truly doubt that a REA can truthfully tell you that you won't get relocated.
However, there may be REAs on this board that might be privy to information that we ordinary folks might not have though.

When Millbridge gets built out, it is estimated that it will require a new Elementary, Middle and High school just to meet the needs of just that one neighborhood. The UCPS typically doesn't set assignments that far in advance. That way they can adequate idea of new growth and adjust cluster zones accordingly. They have done a pretty decent job for the most part (not perfect, but all things considered, decent). Although it might be easier for them to herd cats. I would probably set your daughter's expectation that change is a fair possiblity before her graduation, at least until the zones get set. Then if it happens, it was expected, and if it doesn't, a pleasant surprise.

Union County is growing so (too) fast, we are never quite sure how the redistricting will go until it's here. That is when the School Baord has the highest public attendance. Real Estate Agents do not know any sooner as to where the lines will be drawn. We, as well as the parents and public in general, can have some logical assumptions but...you can't be sure. There are also several split-feeder elementaries-New Town Elem. feeds to Weddington and Parkwood, Antioch feeds into Sun Valley and Weddington, and Kensington feeds into Parkwood and Weddington, depending on your location. My assumption (and we all know what it means to assume!) is that UCPS will try to alleviate these split feeders now that Cuthbertson will be the third high school for the area. I really don't have a clue as to what they will do with Millbridge-reps told our office it was Kensington, Marvin Middle and High....Just plugged both street addresses from MLS for Millbribge, into UCPS Edulog System and neither were in their database. Your best bet is to call UCPS and ask them. And yes, they have definitely CLEARED for the Cuthbertson schools-I watched all the woods cleared and have dealt with the dirt, dust and flying bits of wood for weeks!!!! Hi jlat

J,

is correct, I do volunteer at MRMS pretty often and from my understanding Millbridge will eventually go to new schools. the lines havent been drawn yet, as to who is going where. Millbridge will have 2200 homes when completed in 7 yrs, Im wondering though if Weddington will be on the emptier side since all these new schools are going up in this vincinity. we went with our friends to Millbridge yesterday and well the Sales People are telling potential buyers that the schools are marvin ridge HOWEVER that might not be true once the Cumbtherson Schools are built. I dont think anyone knows right now.

good luck

We love Marvin Ridge

Good point on the split feeder schools. Wouldn't Kensington feed into Marvin Ridge and Parkwood?

Yes-you are so right-Kensington does split to Parkwood and Marvin. It was Weddington until they opened up Marvin Ridge this year Great catch-Thanks!
Noticed the MLS sheets for Quellin were wrong as well.
